Tale of Two Cities Outline

Topic Choice: Sacrifice
Thesis-I believe that being selfless and loving God calls for some sacrifices in life. In a tale of two cities there are some examples that show what sacrifice is.

1. Book 3, chapter 7- Darnay is arrested for the second time and one of the guards that has arrested him is reminded that,"Manette of primacy of states interests over personal loyalties."

2. Ex. Carton's transformation from boy to man because he sacrifices his old-self. He also lays down his own life for the ones he loves.

3. My opinion on sacrifice.

Basically, I would be proving some examples in the book about sacrifice and then I would write something short about my own personal beliefs on sacrifice.

Video Response to "Who is Dependent on Welfare?"

The video was very interesting, but it was a little hard to understand so I had to watch it a couple times. Basically I got that both classes of people sides are dependent on welfare. No one is really at fault either, but the government. In the beginning I am sure the government meant well and wanted to help the people, but over the years the poor as well as the wealthy have taken advantage of the system leaving it doing harm to the system and to the people. I honestly don't know how this problem can be fixed, but I don't think it will ever be fixed because it has been around so long. There was the one part in the video that stood out, it was the part talking about dependency and how the "solution can't be handed out to people." I thought that line represents how welfare is being taken advantage very well. The poor using their money to feed their addictions instead of actual necessities for themselves/families. The wealthy lie to get more money than they need. For example, the lady in Chicago who had 30 names and was collecting money under each name. In my opinion this is a huge problem that can't be fixed, and it's a shame that some people who really need it can't get help. This video is something that is kinda close to me because my aunty is one of those people who actually need welfare from the government and can't get help for some reason. This is actually really saddening/upsetting because people who lie actually get this money and people who really need it, can't. I really do believe it does help people, but I don't think it is as helpful because we still have poverty. I just hope one day there can be fairness in this system to who really deserves welfare. Now I'm not sure how welfare exactly makes a connection with the book, because from my understanding it seems that the upper class have everything and the lower class are left with basically nothing.

Social Justice Philosophy

Social Justice to me is giving people equal opportunities. My personal philosophy on poverty is that it’s not something small. It’s actually a big issue in the United States and it shouldn’t exist due to the opportunities given to us. I don’t know if I would necessarily say, “poverty is necessary,” but I would agree that sometimes you will find one of the most humbled people when put into situations like this, which can make a positive impact on others. I definitely believe in stewardship! It’s something I really do enjoy, I love helping others whenever I can. Sadly, we don’t have a lot of people in our society who are willing to help one another. People are more based on, “How can I help myself to become better”, and “What can I do to make myself more successful.” Its all surrounded on selfishness more on selflessness. My point of view as a senior in high school. I believe education is super important! I really wish I took my education more seriously when I was younger ;however I do think that some classes are unnecessary for students. Overall, going to school to get an education is the foundation for real life. You learn  simple life qualities that you carry on for the rest of your life. Honestly, I am not too big on the environment. I do still recycling and pick up after myself and sometimes for others because even though this world isn’t going to last forever it should still look somewhat nice while we are here. Plus I would want others to enjoy His creation too.(: Lastly, materialism is another thing I am not too big on. Even though I have been blessed with alot and sometimes I get caught up in the things I have. I still think that if this world wasn’t so materialistic it would be a better place. There probably wouldn’t be as many  selfish people, and possibly less stealing (lol). However, I think this generation has grown both negatively and positively because of the things we have today.

Anti-Slavery Involvement

1. I can do my part and share what modern day slavery looks like and how we can prevent women/children from being a part of that industry.
2. I can start of small and talk about this issue in school. Or locally by posting some posters about slavery.
3.Do fundraisers (i.e. car washes, bake sale, garage sales) and raise money and give it to an organization who really supports this cause.
4. Get others involved with this movement and help them to see that it does affect us and it could affect their children in the future.
